& Caffeinate.

For our foodies, you’ll find that Oaxaca offers amazing food at every corner! Here are some of the places that we recommend.

  • Oaxacan food you MUST try:

    Tlayudas

A homemade dish consisting of a large, thin, crunchy tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, meat, and Oaxaca cheese.

    Chicatanas

Considered a delicacy in Oaxacan gastronomy, these Mexican ants add a smokey flavor to salsas, moles, tamales, and more.

    Tejate

Very popular among the indigenous Mixtec and Zapotec peoples, tejate is a non-alcoholic maize and cacao beverage.

    Memelas

Fried or toasted cakes made of masa topped with different fresh ingredients eaten as snacks (“antojitos”) in the state of Oaxaca.

    Mole

Traditional sauce originally used in Oaxacan cuisine. Bonus points for anyone who tries all 7 moles that Oaxaca has to offer.

  • Restaurants:

    For Breakfast

Boulenc - Artisan bread, pastries & brunch dishes at an airy cafe-bakery with tables in a covered courtyard.

    For Lunch/Dinner

Los Danzantes - Housemade mezcales, cocktails & seasonal Oaxacan dishes in a leafy indoor/outdoor setting.

Pitiona - Rooftop brunches & cocktails with views over bell towers at a stylish Mexican-European gastrobar.

Origen - Inventive global cuisine with an accent on regional produce in a subdued, timber-ceilinged space.

Zandunga - Hip venue serving local classics made with area-sourced ingredients, plus creative mezcal cocktails.

  • Coffee Shops

Those who know the bride know that she needs her “cafecito.” Here’s a list of coffee shops when you feel like you need to recharge.
